Be still my heart

{9 months}

We are absolutely smitten with our sweet Capri and are doing our best to soak in her baby days that are seeming to go by way too fast.

 Slow down my little love.

DIY felt bow headbands

I love crafting but haven't been around to it much. I mostly switch around furniture, pictures and rugs to get my crafty/artsy fulfillment and my silly need for change and/or production. I have a lot of felt and elastic left over from baby showers I have hosted where we have had a headband making station. I am trying to downsize my craft supplies because we have a couple moving in downstairs. More on that later. So, instead of getting rid of it I thought I would use some of it before I passed it along. Instead of re-inventing the wheel (who has time for that?) I wanted to share this really good and really simple tutorial along to you. Seriously, it is easy. Free template and everything. All you need to know how to do is use scissors and very little glue. Easy peasy. Here is the website: Six Sister's Stuff. All you need is scissors, felt, glue and elastic. DEFINITELY download the template. This is what makes them look good and be really easy. Free-handed bows aren't as cute as free-handed flowers. Here is my go at it:
Note: I followed the instructions to a T on the cow hide print bow and then decide to cinch in the next two for a little bit of a gathered look. A little trial and error. Both are fun, just a little bit different. You can't go wrong.
I used the big felt bow template. Cut each piece out and then pin it onto your felt and cut! This is what the template looks like:
And here they are on my little one. We love new headbands!

Here is the sizing chart I used. I think it's pretty accurate.
10" for newborns
12" for 0-3 months
14" for 3-6 months (I used this size for Capri)
16" for 6-9 months
18" for 9-12 months

Happy Crafting!

documenting firsts

Today Capri had her first blowout which ended up turning into a photo shoot. I'm supposed to be resting but I couldn't help documenting such a precious little naked baby girl in a soft ruffled white blanket with the sun shining in. She only had to endure one wardrobe change - a headband. I went easy on her :) She is just a precious little thing to us. I am sure this is just one of many photo shoots...and one of many blowouts! We love you sweet Capri!

back to school...wooohoooo!

...and the wooohooo is from Sterling. I love my littles here at home with me. I would be lying if I didn't give a little wooohooo for the structure and routine school has provided for us (and 3 hrs of alone time) but I never want to send my kids off with the attitude of getting rid of them for the day. We took a parenting class this last year from an amazing family and one of my favorite lines that I took away from it was "I had you to be with you." That is what I want my kids to know and remember. Christmas break was great. We had a lot of good play days in p.j's. and adventures at Charlie Safari, Fantasy Lights and night time drives to look at all the lit up homes. After two weeks off, Sterling was excited to go back to school and I'm happy about that. He loves his teachers, loves his friends and loves doing something out of the ordinary. He was so happy about going back on Monday that he washed his face (even used soap), combed his hair (for a good 10 minutes), named his classmates and put on a button down shirt to look "fancy." It melted my heart. He even wanted his picture taken. He is really growing up. I've loved hearing about his days back to school and having some good conversations that have lead to some great learning moments. I love this boy!

A Happy New Year to YOU!

The boys were asleep by 9 and we were asleep by 10:30...but have no fear - we woke up at midnight from all the fireworks in our area going off so we rang in the new year with a quick "happy new year to you and goodnight." Party poopers I know. Nothing sounds better than sleep these days (well besides food) to both Justin and I. We are excited for this coming year for some obvious reasons (ahem...one little lady that will make her debut in just 10 weeks) but some simple ones as well. We have faithfully stuck to our cash only system for 9 days now (pat on the back), we plan on paying cash for a 7 seater vehicle and a friend and I are going to go on a Bible reading plan together for the accountability. I'm pretty excited. Hope you all had a great first week of 2013! Cheers to a fresh start!

Boone's room - all the changes

I often forget how awful the colors were in our home before we purchased. There was definitely some little girls that lived here and loved pink! I love that paint is such a dramatic makeover and one of the most inexpensive makeovers. I still can't believe we used about 50 gallons for this house...and counting :) Here is Boone's room (originally a guest bedroom before he came along) from August 2009 to May 2012.

It went from HOT PINK....
To BLUE STRIPES and lots of GREEN...

To a little more SIMPLIFIED room with a little more WHITE and a little less green. Just switching out his dark curtains and taking away the busy bumper made the room much more peaceful. I am loving the change. Look at that curly headed little baby in his crib. He loves his bed!

And his birdie mobile is still going strong. We have lost 2 birds over the past 18 months...not too bad for a little boy that can bat at it. He loves his birds!

I made this bird mobile before he was born and it was a free project using leftover scrap fabric and branches from the yard. I recently made one of these mobiles for my friend Kristy who is having a baby girl (and baby #5...amazing) and she saw that it sold on Etsy for $168! Who pays that much for a mobile?! Maybe I need to go into that business!

I hope you all have a blessed Mother's Day weekend! If you live on the West coast we are having amazing weather this weekend...we are heading to the beach in about 30 minutes! Woohoo for the sunshine and weather that is above 65 degrees! :)
